California Insurance Commissioner Meets with Supervisors and County Staff

On Wednesday, August 7th, Supervisors
Miller and Scofield, County Executive Officer Alison Lehman, Information and General Services Director Steve Monaghan and County staff met with California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara and his staff to talk about homeowner fire insurance renewal issues specific to Nevada County. Lara said that complaints to the California Department of Insurance related to non-renewals are up nearly 600% since 2010 in areas with increased wildfire risk.

August 13th Truckee Board Meeting Preview

Board of Supervisors meetings take place every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. Unless otherwise noted, at the beginning of each meeting, the public can address the Board on items that don't appear on the agenda, but are of public interest and are within the jurisdiction of the Board. Tuesday's August 13th special meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Truckee Town Hall at the Administrative Center in Truckee.

First, the Board will accept a First Place Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for the 2019 Digital Counties Survey.

Following the consent calendar, the Board will consider designating the Lake Tahoe Railway & Transportation Company Truckee Railroad Station as a Nevada County Historical Landmark.

Afterwards, the Board will hear a presentation from the Donner Summit Association regarding economic development in the Soda Springs area.

Then, the Board will hear a presentation and consider accepting Public Health's 2019 Annual Report.

At 11:00 a.m., the Board will first hold a public hearing to consider the adoption of the Hirschdale Road Bridges Project Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaraton before considering a resolution to adopt the study on the project.

In an afternoon session starting at 12:30 p.m., the Board will hear a presentation on the Truckee Tahoe Airport followed by presentations on two affordable housing projects in the area, the Coburn Crossing Housing Project and the Artists Lofts Housing Projects.

Back to School Immunization Clinic, August 13th and 29th

For those children without a medical home, who are uninsured or who have Medi-Cal, Nevada County Public Health will be holding a Back to School Immunization Clinic on August 13th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Grass Valley Veteran's Hall in Grass Valley, and on August 29th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Joseph Center in Truckee. For over 15 years Public Health has hosted clinics during the summer months to support our children with their immunizations as they enter pre-school, K-12 grades and college.

BLM Will Offer Horses for Adoption in Grass Valley, August 17th and 18th

Wild horses and burros from California's public rangelands will be available for adoption, Saturday and Sunday, August 17th and 18th, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley.

The Bureau of Land Management will offer ten mares and geldings aged two- to four-years-old and ten yearling fillies and colts under two years old. The adoption offering includes ten burros of all ages.

CCTT's mission aligns closely with Nevada County's Health and Human Services efforts in eastern Nevada County. Current focuses include increasing affordable housing, providing comprehensive behavioral health services, and participating in the Tahoe Truckee Suicide Prevention Coalition.
