NEWS RELEASE: Animal Cruelty Charges Filed

Nevada City—Cliff Newell, Nevada County District Attorney, announced today that his office has filed criminal charges against Nicholas Chittock in the Simply County Farm Store case. The complaint alleges a single felony count of Penal Code section 597(b), commonly referred to as Animal Cruelty.
 
This charge arose from an incident on November 2, 2017, when Nevada County Animal Control was notified that a piglet purchased from Simply Country Farm Store showed signs of severe neglect.  Authorities found numerous other animals at the location including hundreds of birds without food and limited water that were dead or dying, allegedly from neglect and lack of proper sustenance.

The case is set for arraignment on December 18, 2017 at 9:00 A.M., at the Nevada City branch of the Nevada County Superior Court.
