Nevada County Public Health Recommends Masking IndoorsDue to the recent dramatic increase in cases of COVID-19 in our community and following recently released Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and California Department of Public Health (CDPH) guidelines, the Nevada County Public Health Officer strongly recommends masking indoors. Nevada County’s daily case rate and case positivity rate have drastically increased in less than a month. The steep increase is in part, due to the highly contagious Delta variant. The Delta variant in California now accounts for over 80% of cases sequenced, resulting in cases and hospitalizations of COVID-19 rising throughout the state, especially amongst those that remain unvaccinated.
“The recommendation for everyone to resume masking indoors and to get tested after an exposure is a prudent measure to slow the spread of the Delta variant,” said Nevada County Health Officer Dr. Scott Kellermann. “It is proven that masks work, and they work against every variant that this virus has produced. Putting on a mask indoors in settings where you can’t be sure that everyone is fully vaccinated is a simple way to add another layer of protection against COVID-19. Our best protection against COVID-19 continues to be the vaccine. Being immunized and using masks in indoor settings, will save lives, save livelihoods, protect our families and friends and will allow our economy to prosper.”

The decision follows the Board’s April dedication of $5.8 Million in ARPA funds for “Community & Economic Resiliency” projects.

CalDART Network Volunteers Needed at the Nevada County AirportIn the event of a disaster such as a major earthquake, flood, fire, or other disasters, local general aviation airports can play a large role in providing air transportation services of personnel or supplies. CalDART prepares pilots and ground personnel to perform specific duties to carry out the mission. In a DART, volunteer pilots do what they already know how to do – fly from one airport to another and give people or things a ride. A variety of other DART volunteers guided by a DART Incident Commander, a Flight Operations Manager, a Materiel Manager, a Ramp Manager, and a Recruitment Manager assemble the team, take in-flight requests, weigh the cargo, assign materiel and passengers to be transported on specific aircraft, maintain safety, help pilots load, and so on.
“Small General Aviation airports like ours have the ability to make huge impacts in supporting major disasters all over the state and surrounding areas," said Nevada County Airport Manager Kevin Edwards. "Bringing this program to Nevada County will expand the reach for CalDART and allows ways for the community volunteers and local pilots to help out during these events.”
