Officials from Nevada City, Nevada County, the Regional Housing Authority, and the Affordable Housing Development Corporation ceremoniously broke ground on the Cashin’s Field Affordable Housing Development on August 5th. Cashin’s Field is slated for 51 units of affordable workforce housing located at 170 Ridge Road in Nevada City and will include a community center, two playgrounds, picnic areas, and a central courtyard. The development is estimated to be complete in December 2022. The Cashin’s Field Development is the result of a strong collaboration across jurisdictions to increase housing for residents of Nevada County.
Since 2017, eight developments have been in planning, active construction, or have been completed, totaling 301 new units of affordable housing throughout the county: 157 units for Western Nevada County and 144 units for Eastern County. Of those, 175 units are complete and are either in the process of leasing or have residents already moved in. By January 2022, 69 additional units will be complete, and in January of 2023 another 56 units will be completed. Low-income units (60% of Area Median Income) total 205, and 105 units are set for very low income (30% of AMI). Area median income is based on household income for the median household in a region and varies by household size. A total of 28 units will be dedicated to Permanent Supportive Housing, which provides support services to address housing needs of seriously mentally ill residents.
