The Nevada County Planning Department and South County Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) are moving ahead with an update to the Higgins Corner Area Plan adopted in 2000 as the county seeks to solidify a framework for land use, development, housing, and transportation throughout the Higgins Corner/Lake of the Pines Community Region. The Area Plan will identify goals, policies, and guidelines to supplement the countywide General Plan in guiding future development within the Higgins Corner/Lake of the Pines area. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, August 18th at 6 pm via Zoom.
The Higgins Corner/Lake of the Pines Community region, located in South County, was identified as community in need of an update to the area plan to accompany other recent Area Plan updates throughout the county such as the Soda Springs and Penn Valley Area Plans. In July, the Board of Supervisors approved a resolution to enter into a contract with PlaceWorks, Inc., a planning and design firm with experience working in Nevada County, to prepare the new Area Plan.
This month, the Area Plan project is officially underway with a Kickoff Meeting where the South County MAC will invite the PlaceWorks team to discuss the Area Plan update, facilitate brainstorming and community visioning activities, and talk about the project timeline and next steps. Keep an eye out for future communication from the South County MAC and Supervisor Scofield’s office on updates and ways you can provide input and help inform the South County Area Plan
“This is an exciting opportunity for the community and the members of the MAC to engage our new consultant and planning staff on the vision for the South County Area and updating our Area Plan.” Said District 2 Supervisor Ed Scofield.
