After a successful, fully remote session of Citizen’s Academy in early spring of this year, Nevada County is happy to announce another session of Citizen’s Academy which will offer the advantages of attending remotely and in person. Applications are now being accepted for a hybrid Citizen’s Academy session that will take place from September through December of 2021.
Citizen's Academy offers a behind-the-scenes look at County government. Participants tour multiple County facilities and learn from over twenty department presentations that cover a wide range of services from A (Agriculture) to Z (Zoning). “Understanding how local government operates and responds to the needs of our community has never been more important,” said Alison Lehman, County Executive Officer. “This program has become a cornerstone to engaging with our community while sharing the inner workings of our local government process.”
Citizen’s Academy connects community members with staff and leadership from across the County organization to create a better informed and engaged community. The program has over 100 graduates of Citizen's Academy to date. "Citizen's academy was a fantastic learning experience. I was amazed at the wide range of services Nevada County provides for us,” said Citizen's Academy participant, Richard Nolle. “I was very impressed with the quality of presenters for every topic. It made me proud to be a citizen of Nevada County. We live in a very well run, knowledgeable, and caring county staffed by some incredible people."
Citizen's Academy takes place on ten consecutive Monday evenings from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting in late September through early December. Specific dates including information on which sessions are in person or remote and session topics can be found at www.mynevadacounty.com/citizensacademy. If you are interested in attending this Fall, please apply online by August 15th.
