Career Online High School (COHS)
The Nevada County Library is happy to offer adults the opportunity to earn their high school diplomas through Career Online High School (COHS).
Scholarships
Nevada County Library offers COHS scholarships, allowing adult learners, age 19 and over, to earn an accredited high school diploma as well as a career certificate in one of eight high-demand career fields.
Program Details
The COHS program can be accessed twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, via the Internet, so students can work at their own pace and when it is convenient for them. Students will be given up to 18 months to complete the program.
Academic Coaches
Students are paired with an academic coach to whom they can reach out as frequently as they would like. The coaches are available via phone or email. They offer ongoing guidance and connect the student with the resources needed to master the courses.
Nevada County Library staff are also available to help students overcome obstacles they may have in participating in the program.
Requirements
To be considered for COHS, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a library card, and show a willingness and ability to dedicate ten hours a week to coursework. Prospective participants must complete a short Online Survey to determine basic eligibility. If eligible for COHS, students must register and complete a two-week Pre-Requisite Course.
Upon successful completion of the Pre-Requisite Course, Library staff will contact students to schedule an in-person interview to determine eligibility for a scholarship.
Partnerships
Career Online High School is made available through a partnership with the California State Library. Scholarships are sponsored by the Friends of the Nevada County Libraries, Friends of the Truckee Library, and California State Library.
