Homelessness
Board Objective
In partnership with community providers and other jurisdictions, utilize housing first and continue efforts to prevent homelessness, provide emergency shelter, expand supportive services, secure housing, and enhance coordination to address the needs of the homeless population and mitigate impacts on the community.
The Challenge
- Preventing and diverting individuals and families from homelessness
- Expanding services and outreach to secure and maintain housing to those experiencing homelessness
- Providing appropriate shelter needs as homeless individuals and families navigate to housing
- Increasing stock of affordable and supportive housing for those in need of housing
- Collecting accurate data and understanding the needs of Nevada County’s homeless population for development of the best homelessness strategies
County Initiatives
- Provide services and housing opportunities to children and youth to prevent entry into the adult homeless system and long-term homelessness
- Increase availability of mortgage and rental assistance to maintain current housing and prevent homelessness
- Prioritize maintaining the HOME team and expand embedded outreach and engagement
- Strengthen housing-focused case management and post housing supportive services
- Expand year-round shelter capacity and interim housing options
- Facilitate and promote partnerships between local jurisdictions, stakeholders, and developers for the development of affordable and supportive housing
- Collaborate with stakeholders in the Nevada County Regional Continuum of Care
- Strengthen the Homeless Resource Team for coordinated multi-disciplinary case conferencing
