COUNTY OF NEVADA REDISTRICTING PROCESS- Final Map Approved

Local governments use new census data every ten years to redraw their district lines to reflect how local populations have changed. Assembly Bill 849 (2019) requires cities and counties to engage communities in the redistricting process by holding public hearings and/or workshops and public outreach, including non-English-speaking communities.

As part of the redistricting process, the California FAIR MAPS Act includes neighborhoods and “Communities of Interest” as important considerations. California law defines Communities of Interest as “a population that shares common social or economic interests that should be included within a single district for purposes of its effective and fair representation.

Nevada County Board of Supervisor District Boundaries must be redrawn every 10 years using U.S. Census data to make the five districts as equal in population as possible and that each member represents about the same number of constituents. The County encourages residents to participate by suggesting neighborhood and community of interest maps of areas that should be kept undivided and full five-district map suggestions for the whole county.

I live on Red Dog road, East of Banner Mountain, 5 miles + / - from Grass valley / Nevada city and I'm currently in district 5. I fail to see my commonality with the folks in Truckee, Soda Springs, Boca, Florston, etc with the exception of fire safety.  I feel a  better fit for me would be to be in district 1 or 3. No offence to district 2 and 5.

I am a resident of District 5, living in You Bet at on Autumn Oak Rd. I am part of a comparatively small community roughly between Highway 20 and 174 and east of the Greenhorn, much of the former Little York township.   While Richard Anderson was a great supervisor and attentive to the needs of our community, and I expect Supervisor Bullock to be the same, the fact remains that our community has different interests and concerns than the bulk of District 5 which is east of the Sierra and is centered around Truckee. Our primary concerns have to do, in no particular order, with wildfire suppression and evacuation, control of illegal cannabis and illegal mining, increases in property crime and road maintenance.  I have heard that District 5 will have to be shrunk to account for the increase in population around Truckee. If that is so, you may wish to consider moving our community to a different district.

  1. Option 3 comments-  In this option, it makes more sense to move You Bet Rd and Greenhorn to District 2 than the town of Washington as shown in Option 2.   Why move Pine Crest Drive north of Ball Road in Alta Sierra to District 1 as they seem like they are part of Alta Sierra?
  1. Option 4 comments-  We like moving Bitney Springs to District 4 for continuity with the rest of the road.  Can the You Bet and Greenhorn road areas be moved into District 1 in this option?
